Saginaw ISD offers high-quality early childhood education through our comprehensive preschool services, including Head Start, Early Head Start, and the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP). Our programs are designed to support the developmental, educational, and social-emotional needs of children from birth to age five, providing a strong foundation for lifelong learning. With a focus on inclusive, nurturing environments and family engagement, Saginaw ISD's preschool services ensure that every child is given the opportunity to thrive and succeed in school and beyond.
PROGRAMS
Head Start: for children ages 3-5 years old
Early Head Start (EHS): for pregnant moms-3 years old
Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP): for 4-year-old children
PROGRAM OPTIONS
Center Base: Full Day (September – May)
8 hours a day, 4 days a week Monday – Thursday
Center Base: Full Day Full Year (September – August)
8 hours a day, 4 days a week Monday – Thursday
To be eligible for this option, parents must be working or going to school a minimum of 20 hours per week.
Home Base
Families receive a minimum of 46 weekly, 1½-hours home visits per year
Weekly socializations
Child Care Partners
7 hours a day with extended care, 4 days a week Monday – Thursday
There is a fee for extended child care (child care outside of Head Start hours of service)
TRANSPORTATION
Limited transportation is available at the following sites: Jerome, Brunkow, Brucker, and Claytor for Head Start students only.
ELIGIBILITY & SELECTION
Head Start, EHS, and GSRP are child development programs determined by income and child's age.
Eligibility selection is based on a point system. Children are placed according to the points received.
Points are based on age, income, parental status, family situation, special needs, and other factors.
APPLICATION
To start the enrollment process, complete this online Enrollment Application or call the main office at (989) 752-2193, ext. 2241 and schedule an
appointment. During the appointment, a staff member will assist you in filling out the necessary paperwork.
The following items are required when the application is taken:
Birth Certificate
Proof of income for the past thirty days (Pay stubs, SSI, and/or DHS Statements, W-2)
Current Immunizations
Proof of Medical Insurance
WIC verification (If currently enrolled)
Proof of SNAP Benefits
Proof of mortgage, rent, utilities, homeowner's or renter's insurance
Proof of Residency (Driver’s license or Utility bill)
