EARLY CHILDHOOD

As the new school year approaches, Saginaw ISD's Preschool Department is excited to offer comprehensive early childhood education programs for families in our community. We are now accepting applications for enrollment in our Head Start, Early Head Start, and Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP). These programs provide high-quality, free, or low-cost education and support services for children and families.

Why Choose Saginaw ISD’s Preschool Programs?

At Saginaw ISD, we believe that every child deserves the best start in life. Our preschool programs are designed to nurture young minds and prepare children for future academic success. We focus on fostering a love for learning through engaging activities, experienced educators, and a supportive environment that promotes social, emotional, and cognitive development.

Head Start

Head Start is a federally funded program that offers comprehensive early childhood education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families. Our Head Start program provides a rich learning environment where children aged 3 to 5 can thrive and grow. We offer:

  • Individualized Learning Plans: Tailored to meet each child's unique needs and interests.

  • Health and Nutrition: Regular health screenings, nutritious meals, and opportunities for physical activity.

  • Family Engagement: Opportunities for parents to participate in their child's education and development.

Early Head Start

Early Head Start serves pregnant women, infants, and toddlers up to age 3, focusing on the critical early years of development. This program supports families in nurturing their child's growth and building a strong foundation for the future. Benefits include:

  • Home-Based and Center-Based Options: Flexible options to meet family needs.

  • Comprehensive Services: Health, nutrition, and family support services.

  • Parent Education: Resources and workshops to support parenting and child development.

Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP)

GSRP is Michigan’s state-funded preschool program for 4-year-olds. It is designed to prepare children for kindergarten by providing a developmentally appropriate learning environment. Our GSRP offers:

  • Qualified Teachers: Experienced educators who are dedicated to fostering a love for learning.

  • Curriculum Aligned with Kindergarten Readiness: Activities and lessons that promote early literacy, math, and social skills.

  • Family Involvement: Encouraging parents to be active participants in their child’s education.
