Saginaw ISD is pleased to announce that the newly renovated Jerome Preschool building is set to reopen for students in the 2025-2026 school year. This milestone marks the beginning of a new chapter for early childhood education in our community, with transformative upgrades that reflect Saginaw ISD’s commitment to innovation and excellence.
Saginaw ISD will implement a phased approach to reopening to ensure a smooth transition. Full-year programs assigned to Jerome Preschool will begin operations in June 2025, allowing families and staff to adjust seamlessly to the new environment while providing enriching summer programming for students.
In addition, Saginaw ISD has launched a dedicated webpage to keep families and the community informed about the Jerome Preschool Project. The webpage features progress updates, photos, and detailed information about the facility’s innovative features and programming. “We are thrilled about the reopening of Jerome Preschool and the opportunities it will provide for our students and families,” said Dr. Erin Senkowski, Deputy Superintendent of Instructional Programs at Saginaw ISD. “Our phased approach ensures a seamless transition, starting with full-year summer programs, while our state-of-the-art facility reflects our dedication to inspiring curiosity, fostering learning, and building stronger connections within our community.”
In the fall of 2021, Saginaw ISD proudly acquired the Jerome Elementary Campus from Saginaw Public School District, marking the beginning of a transformative journey for early childhood education. This vision took a significant step forward with a ceremonial groundbreaking held on May 8, 2024, celebrating the start of renovations to create an innovative learning environment for our youngest learners.
The renovation of Jerome Preschool is more than a facelift; this vision is a commitment to creating a state-of-the-art learning environment. Key updates include:
Structural Enhancements: Upgrades include roof repairs, a new parking lot, enhanced lighting, and a modern HVAC system to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all.
Green Innovations: The addition of a greenhouse, vibrant green walls, and classroom hydroponics will seamlessly integrate nature into the learning experience, providing students with hands-on opportunities to explore and connect with the environment, landscapes, and fresh food.
Community Involvement: Our newly established professional learning center, medical clinic partnership, and community garden are designed to foster family engagement and build stronger partnerships between the school and the surrounding neighborhood.
The Jerome Preschool renovation reflects Saginaw ISD’s dedication to fostering partnerships and responsible stewardship of resources. Funded through the State of Michigan’s Pension Unfunded Actuarial Accrued Liability (UAAL) reimbursement program, the project ensures that operating funds for programs like Head Start and Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) remain unaffected.
“As we approach the next chapter for Jerome Preschool, we are grateful for the collaborative efforts of our Early Childhood and Instructional Services departments and the unwavering support of the Saginaw ISD Board of Education,” said Dr. Jeffrey Collier, Superintendent of Saginaw ISD. “This project is not just about building renovations; it’s about building brighter futures for the Saginaw of tomorrow.”
Saginaw ISD invites families to stay connected through the Jerome Project webpage and looks forward to welcoming students and families to the new Jerome Preschool.
